Silence is Consent

If you don't speak up you accept what is happening. This site was born out of the mainstream media's inability to cover the news. I am just an American cititzen trying to spread the word in the era of FCC consolidation, post 9/11 Patriot Act hysteria, hackable voting machines and war without end. I rant and post news items I perceive to be relevant to our current situation.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Have you been keeping up with the, ahem, problems with the Medicare bill?
Mysterious Fax Adds to Intrigue Over the Medicare Bill's Cost
Late one Friday afternoon in January, after the House of Representatives had adjourned for the week, Cybele Bjorklund, a House Democratic health policy aide, heard the buzz of the fax machine at her desk. Coming over the transom, with no hint of the sender, was a document she had been seeking for months: an estimate by Medicare's chief actuary showing the cost of prescription drug benefits for the elderly.
I love it. The President lies to his own party and look how they respond.
Hastert hits back on Medicare vote and ethics
The Bush administration has not made Hastert's job any easier, he said. "Yeah, [the higher cost estimate] was a surprise to us, and [I was] surprised it happened," Hastert said. "When the administration comes out and says this is going to be more expensive?[it] makes it tougher on us, kind of sticks it to us."

finishes with this...

Another Republican lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity, said conservatives in the GOP caucus have not been organized enough to propose an alternative to reduce the program's cost. But he worried that if more reforms were not introduced, the entire Medicare program could be jeopardized or lawmakers would be forced to raise taxes to cover cost increases.

Well isn't that interesting. A employee is forced to withhold cost estimates from Congress. If the estimates were know before the vote their is no way the bill passes. Bush needs this for the campaign. Still without this knowledge Congress is not guaranteed to pass the bill. The Republican leadership is forced to bribe those in it's own party to get the bill passed. The bill passes and a little later we find out about the true cost of the pharmaceutical Companies/HMO/Insurance Company Medicare Reform Bill is 33% higher than the bill was when it passed.
